After a patient is approved for TMS therapy, we begin the next critical step—developing a personalized treatment plan. At TMS Health Center, we recognize that no two patients are alike, and your treatment should reflect your unique needs, symptoms, and medical background. That’s why our planning process is both precise and patient-centered, designed to ensure the highest possible chance of success while prioritizing safety and comfort.
The first part of the planning process involves selecting the most appropriate TMS protocol for your condition. Different mental health disorders—such as depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD—respond best to specific stimulation patterns and target brain areas. Our clinical team carefully determines the optimal region of the brain to stimulate, typically using research-backed mapping techniques to locate the most effective treatment site, such as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for depression or the anterior cingulate cortex for OCD.
Next, we perform motor threshold calibration—a process that uses a series of gentle magnetic pulses to identify the lowest intensity needed to activate neurons without causing discomfort. This calibration allows us to deliver the most effective dose of stimulation safely and consistently across all sessions. Based on these results, we then design a detailed treatment schedule, usually consisting of five sessions per week for four to six weeks, depending on individual needs and response rates.
Throughout the entire planning phase, we consider your personal preferences, availability, and lifestyle to create a plan that’s not only medically sound but also realistic and sustainable. Our goal is to maximize therapeutic outcomes while minimizing side effects, helping you achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in your mental health with as little disruption to your daily life as possible.
